Guardianship
Guardianship is a legal process that allows a designated guardian to make decisions and provide care for an incapacitated adult—someone with a clinically diagnosed condition that prevents them from making or communicating decisions about their health, safety, or care.
The Arc of Bristol County offers comprehensive guardianship services, overseeing all aspects of an individual’s life, including the services they receive and their medical needs. The Arc collaborates with service agencies to ensure that individuals participate in programs tailored to their needs and works closely with hospitals and medical staff to guarantee necessary treatment and care.
Guardianship is accepted through DDS referral only.
Rogers Monitoring
When the court grants the guardian Rogers authority, it also appoints a person known as a Rogers monitor to ensure that the respondent is medicated according to the court-approved treatment plan. For individuals under its guardianship, The Arc can also act as the Rogers monitor, ensuring that prescribed treatments are administered properly and in accordance with legal requirements.
