RI Children's Services

proAbility Children's Services

Named for our emphasis on ability, the team at proAbility, a division of The Arc of Bristol County, consistently challenges itself to meet the needs of children and families in Rhode Island through family-driven services.

  • Eligibility

As a licensed agency, we work closely with RIPIN, EOHHS, and school psychcologists to assist with new referrals. Families interested in our services can call proAbility to determine if they are a good fit for your family and child. Families can request a Letter of Medical Necessity from their pediatrician or medical provider, which should include documentation of the child's diagnosis, symptoms, and treatment recommendations.

If your child is not Medicaid eligible, we can assist with the Katie Beckett application.

  • Home-Based Therapeutic Services (HBTS)

HBTS are medically necessary, intensive services that can help families of children with moderate to severe behavioral health and developmental or physical disabilities. HBTS is provided to children in both home and other appropriate community settings.

Children under 21 who meet the following criteria are eligible:
    • Enrolled in Medicaid
    • Live at home with their family or legal guardians
    • Have a chronic and moderate to severe cognitive, physical, developmental, or psychiatric diagnosis within the last two years
    • Are at risk for out-of-home placement or hospitalization in a nursing facility or Intermediate Care Facility

  • Personal Assistance Services and Supports (PASS)

PASS is a family-directed service that can help families of children with special healthcare needs. PASS is provided in the home or community setting to help improve a child’s ability to do activities of daily life, maintain safety, and/or gain social skills.

The supports provided through PASS help the child to develop skills to participate in the community and other social functions with pride and dignity.

Children who are under 21 and meet the following requirements are eligible:
    • Enrolled in Medicaid
    • Live at home with their family/legal guardians
    • Chronic and moderate to severe cognitive, physical, developmental, and/or psychiatric diagnosis within the last two years
